“Susannah’s training skills
and knowledge have enabled
us to have a positive
experience as co-trainers,
delivering the Effective
Care Co-ordinators’ Training
course (ECC). This focused
on the Safeguarding Children
element. Kim Haste and I
have both found the sessions
enjoyable and rewarding.
Susannah has a flexible
approach towards both
learners and ourselves as
co-trainers, and is always
willing to address any
additional needs as they
arise.
Susannah’s background in
mental health and domestic
violence and child advocacy
enables her to bring both an
historic and current
specialist understanding of
safeguarding children and a
degree of realism to the
training room.
The success of the ECC
Training course has been
demonstrated in the
consistently positive
comments we have had on our
feedback and evaluation
forms, and the agreement
from Care Coordinators who
have attended the course
about the importance of
applying this new knowledge
and awareness of
safeguarding
responsibilities in their
working practices.”

“We were having a tough term
and the staff were tired and
frustrated. The Safeguarding
Children Training was a
wonderful reminder as to why
we get up in the morning.
Sarah’s delivery was
innovative and engaging; it
not only helped us refocus
on ‘the child’ but also
brought us closer together
as a team. Working with
children with Social,
Emotional and Behavioural
Difficulties can be very
stressful and I think it’s
all too easy to accept
situations in the young
people’s lives. Sarah’s
training helped us to decide
to tackle some difficult
problems which, in the long
run, will ensure the safety
of our pupils. Sarah’s
knowledge and expertise in
Safeguarding Children and
her enthusiasm in sharing
these has given a new burst
of energy to our commitment
to care for our pupils and
keep them ‘whole’.”

“Sarah has worked with
the staff team at
Hindley Sure Start
Nursery School to update
and develop the
policies, procedures and
staff understanding
around safeguarding the
children within our
care. As a result of the
training, the staff felt
that they were better
informed, had a clearer
understanding and had a
raised awareness of
their own
responsibilities in
relation to safeguarding
children. We now have
clear procedures, the
most up to date
information and
guidelines to follow, in
order to ensure a safer
environment in which we
help children to stay
safe.”

“We asked Sarah to draw
up a tailor-made
programme for us, with
quite a challenging
brief. This was to take
as its central topic the
chairing of child
protection conferences,
but to include standing
members of conference
and minute-takers as
well as chairs, the
training officer and the
team manager. The level
of experience of the
group varied enormously,
from some very
experienced people who
had been in post for a
number of years to a
police officer in his
first month of working
in the child protection
field. She was asked
within a one-day
programme to encompass
the training needs of
all these participants
in relation to
conferences.
Sarah rose to the task
and designed a programme
which looked at the
central theme from the
various perspectives
represented in the
group. The team is in a
transitional phase which
is proving difficult,
and some of the members
have been resistant to
the changes; these
issues were raised and
accepted in a way which
lowered the barriers but
did not distract
attention from the
business of the day. She
used a combination of
different teaching
methods which encouraged
group participation and
facilitated them in a
relaxed and informal
manner, ensuring at the
same time that the
activities achieved
their intended purpose.
She was knowledgeable
about the subject-matter
but used her knowledge
to bring out the
expertise of the group
rather than deliver a
lecture.
The group found the day
very helpful, and I
would be happy to
recommend Sarah as a
trainer to anyone else
in a similar situation.”

“Sarah Goodall delivered an
excellent introduction
course to the foster carers
of Blackburn last year. It
was a seven week course in
which all seven Modules were
explained and many anecdotes
used as illustrations. We
were also encouraged to
participate with our own
stories and experiences and
Sarah used games and ice
breakers to join us together
as a group. From this
training, another carer and
I have cascaded the
information down to other
carers by teaching on our
own training courses and
they are on-going and very
successful as each group
formed now meets socially in
addition to and after their
course. We are very grateful
to Sarah for her hard work
in preparation and ensuring
all standards are fully
covered, evidenced and met.
I have no hesitation in
recommending Sarah for any
training position/course
that she is invited to
teach.”

have been very impressed
