Sociodrama And Action Learning Methods |
 |
“One of the reasons that
sociodrama works so well is that it taps into the truth
about humanity that we are each more alike than we are
different.”
Sociodrama, Who’s in Your
Shoes?, Sternberg P & Garcia A, 1989, Praeger. pp4-13
The socio drama and action learning methods we use are based
on the work of Jacob Levi Moreno (1889-1974) and are
designed to develop professional effectiveness and more
creative and productive working for individuals and
organisations.
Socio drama is a method we draw on to explore more complex
systems in organisations where the optimal learning outcome
for the learner is to analyse systems and to be a change
agent. Using sociodrama, a whole group have the opportunity
to enact and explore an issue or situation which has an
impact on them all in some way.
Many of the building block techniques involved in sociodrama
may be quickly learned and applied with groups as tools for
development and change – these techniques are known as
“Action Methods”. We apply Action Methods to offer both
individuals and teams a wide range of techniques and
approaches based on role theory, role training, and
sociodrama which will enable them to view problems and
challenges from a variety of perspectives other than their
own.
We work with groups to facilitate natural spontaneity and
creativity through activities which foster connection,
trust, safety and a sense of lively exploration. We can use
these innovative learning methods to work with your
organisation to:
- Clarify values
- Explore group concerns
- Develop an individual’s understanding of a
systematic approach to organisations
- Develop a wide role repertoire of responses to new
or challenging situations
- Understand the practical principles in order to be
able to devise innovative solutions to supervisory,
managerial or training problems
- Devise problem solving techniques that are more
dynamic and effective
- Learn how to play individual and group roles in more
satisfying ways
We believe that socio drama and action learning methods
are exciting because their use can stimulate what happens in
life in order to evaluate not only one, but a number of
preferred outcomes. By encouraging people to think and
behave beyond their comfort zones we get people out of their
chairs and exploring things in action. Our learning methods
enable learners and teams to “try out” different approaches
to any problem or challenge in a safe, supportive and
controlled environment.
We can help your organisation to achieve:
- A “think outside the box” approach with a built in
process for using trial strategies and predicting
outcomes
- Greater understanding between groups and individuals
- Innovative problem solving solutions
- New and dynamic decision making systems
- A safe platform to experiment and try out new roles
By supporting your organisation in exploring situations,
we can smooth the progress of new solutions to old
situations and better solutions to new situations, and
facilitate group sharing of the insights gained during this
process.
